another very fine release in asthmatic kitty s library catalog music series, this album comes from william ryan fritch, a prolific film composer, sound recordist and multi-instrumentalist from oakland, ca. fittingly, music for honey and bile takes on the character of a cinematic score, collecting a number of varied instrumentals that show an incredible range to fritch s diverse talents. in addition to the composition and production, fritch performs virtually everything on the album, playing piano, guitars, violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, sax, trumpet, marimba, vibraphone and dulcimer to name but a relative few. this is seriously impressive stuff, and chamber pieces such as too anxious to dream , shadows like despondent ghosts and tongues that chatter like pigeons sound like the work of a large ensemble rather than just one man. the variety exhibited on the album is breathtaking too, switching between large-scale productions complete with multilayered strings and percussion to more intimate pieces like eggshells and the manipulated piano drone minimalism of chewed their nails to caustic red pads .

this is a collection of works from british musician gp hall, recorded between 1994 and 1999. for over four decades, guitar in hand hall encountered many styles, jazz, blues, flamenco, rock, folk, and classical improvisation. all contributed to the creation of his unique style. emerging from the british blues boom of the 1960�s, he then followed a long and winding path through various scenes and cultures. in spain, he was influenced by flamenco master manitas del plata before touring europe with liverpool band casey jones & the governors. he was commissioned three times (twice by the arts council of great britain) for original music and was immersed in the avant-garde scene of the 1970�s as an improviser, a pioneer of electric flamenco and a composer of large-scale ensemble pieces. during the 1980�s hall turned his focus to soundtrack music before reinventing himself as the solo performer he is today. with this strong foundation he branched into a tactile expression of his craft, discovering a new style which he called industrial sound sculptures. these sonic compositions are performed on electric and acoustic guitars as well as the six-string bass and are played with various techniques and implements including slides, battery fans, the psaltery bow, razors, toys, velcro and crocodile clips which are fed through sound processors to create a rich sonic environment.

keeping with the rough release rate of an album every couple of years, prime numbers label boss trus me is back with his fourth full length, planet 4. featuring nine cuts of intergalactic techno and once again marking a considerable sonic evolution for this acclaimed uk artist. never one to do the same trick twice, david james wolstencroft uses his latest album as a vehicle for his own interest in deep space, physics and dark matter. it is those subjects that have occupied his mind in recent years, and those subjects that inform this brilliantly otherworldly album. where previous lps have variously been funk and soul heavy, or openly analogue and physical, this one is a more subtle and supple techno affair that is as cerebral as it is seductive. starting with a monologue that suggests that man has already landed on mars, 1979 is a cut that immediately places you somewhere in orbit. spooky synths and sci-fi sounds are eerie and atmospheric and very much set a perfect tone. from there, there is slow, elastic and unsettling mood music on the unexplained , deep and insular techno on dark flow and trippy dan bell style minimalism on ring round heart . the second half of the lp touches on chunky dub, manic and melodic grooves. this is a coherent statement that holds together conceptually and musically. as well as providing plenty of dynamite for the more discerning dance floor, planet 4 is also a delightfully detailed affair that will work just as well on headphones late at night.

the new release from help presents works from various help-releated artists. another release from the arhus-imprint that doesn�t directly state club-proof, but still, this one wouldn t mind having a spin or two by your local dance pusher.the opening track is by central, a ripe house tune with both melodies and good-vibes - probably the closest this young man has come to making an anthem. next up is the four piece group maizena with an ambiguous rhythmical ambient-house jam from the area of denmark with the least rainfall. on the b-side you�ll find a raw and to the point recording of dj sports and c.k joining ph 1 in his throwback techno-studio in the suburbs of arhus. next up is the long awaited debut from manmade deejay, who has been cooking a floating rhythm jam for this 5 course meal of modern danish cuisine. last but not least amsterdam-based kaap joined central on a fine day at rubber studios to create this dreamy and galloping ride. all in all this genuine piece of wax is filled with local devotion and love from the help-crew. thanks for the support!

fantastic voyage�s autumn 2015 release of soul for dancers proved so successful, that we didn�t have to think twice when lois wilson (mojo, record collector) asked if she could do it all over again. it turns out that there were plenty more classic sides in her dj crates, drawing on that rich seam of early soul and proto-soul rhythm & blues, of the sort that would have packed the dancefloors on the sixties club scene, or has been embraced by subsequent generations of club soul diehards.

we finished 2015 with a six-track jumbo ep from borrowed identity and thought we d repeat the same trick for 2016, though this time with originals from okayama-based producer keita sano. eye begins with keep an eye out, pt.2, a propulsive song that sounds like a lost contender for the knight rider theme. own signal keeps things dark, but with a spartan bleakness. the side finishes with smoker, another manic cut that ll give you chills. the flip finds keita exploring brighter sounds without losing that industrial, jagged edge. trmk is essentially a beat track that ll ignite any dance floor and fix is a herky-jerky ditty that ll get you stomping around the club like a possessed reveler. the 12inches cherry on top is think twice, a funky ass-shaker that centers around a crackly sample of crowd noise, a chopped-up disco vocal, and bouncy bass. a fiery finale for this hedonistic party.

our parisian edit friend reverend p hits us with a 4 track ep loaded with some serious boogie and disco heat. concentrating on the sounds of gladys knight (a side) and george duke (b side), reverend p decided to edit em not once but twice...ouble action = double fun :) the a-side tracks are two uptempo numbers with gladys while the flip comes with one mid tempo boogie tune and a high energy disco cut from mr duke. solid gamm material for anyone down with the more soulful sounds of disco!

under his chemotex alias, marcos cabral has been one of the trilogy tapes most productive artists in recent times. this is his third 12&#8243,,, for will bankhead�s imprint in less than 12 months. unlike cabral�s recent album for l.i.e.s, which reveled in its� own distorted, balls-out intensity, thulsa strives to get a balance between becalmed techno hypnotism, skuzzy grooves and gently melodious intent. this blend is perhaps most satisfyingly mixed on the industrial-tinged clank of �delta city-, though the woozier, scuffled late night warmth of �music for security� pushes it close. twice he heads towards deeper territory, first on the title track�s trance-inducing synthesizer loop groove, and secondly on the dubby, locked-in tech-house majesty of �lorentz-.
